Just got my first firearm!
Welp, I bought a case of 880 rounds 1977 Russian plant 188 ammo last week and a mosin nagant 1939 tula 91/30 cheapie friday to shoot it with... my first gun. Just took it out today with a couple friends and had a great time. Yesterday night I completely disassembled it and cleaned + oiled everything. use a micrometer to set firing pin depth to .0080 and we managed to put 120 rounds through it without a single misfire. Groupings were nice and tight. The kick on it makes my buddies "assault rifle:rofl:" (sks) feel like a pea shooter (I really like my friends Taurus 44 mag but oh god the rounds are too much for me to afford). Local gun shop report: all out of .223 & 7.62x39. anything else is hit or miss. I plan on purchasing some sort of tactical rifle, a handgun, and a shotgun here at some point (sooner the better) to round things out but I figured this would be a cheap fun start...
going out next weekend. Hope the range isn't as packed as it was today :4_1_72: |

Congratulations. Flex those rights. Mosin Nagant: Kills on one end and wounds on the other.

Re: Just got my first firearm!
Get a proper Mosin-Nagant firing pin depth gauge. Not because it works better but because it is fun to use the original issue equipment and also becaue it turns the pin inside the bolt for you making re-assembly much easier.
Congrats on the Mosin. Welcome to the bug. |

Congratulations! :553: Be careful, I have decided that owning guns is "fun" and that one is not enough. You will soon be saying "more! more!"

Were as the older rifles didn't need a scope. Iron sights were enough for seasoned shooters... Remember Simo Hyh... http://www.mosinnagant.net/finland/simohayha.asp I can hit any target I can see with iron sights... Don't depend on a scope... Distance is an advantage, but complexity is not... So can you with halfway decent vision, and practice... |
Re: Just got my first firearm!
Be sure to clean it every time, those old Russian rounds probably have corrosive primers.
